Owls are one of the most popular animals in the world, not just in the wizarding world of Harry Potter. They are known for their unique physical appearance, incredible hunting abilities, and their role in mythology and popular culture.

In Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, owls are an important communication tool in the magical world. Let's take a closer look at the owls mentioned in the book.Tawny Owls.

1.Tawny Owls are medium-sized owls that are commonly found in woodlands in Eurasia. They have pale underparts with dark stripes, and their upper parts are brown or gray. There are several different color types known in more than a dozen subspecies. In the Eeylops Owl Emporium, Tawny Owls are priced at 10 Galleons. Rowling explained that it is indeed very lucky that owls are suddenly flying around during the day. This is something that Muggles don't know about.

2.Screech Owls

The Screech Owl genus is closely related to the Scops Owl genus. In 1910, the Screech Owl and Scops Owl in the Eastern Hemisphere merged into the genus Otus, but after 2003, they were based on a series of behaviors, biology, geography, morphology, and DNA separated again and became independent again as Megascops. Rowling once said on the official website that Ron's owl, Pigwidgeon, was a Scops Owl. However, in the film, Pigwidgeon is played by an African White-faced Owl (Ptilopsis) named Mars.

3.Barn Owls

Barn Owls belong to the genus Grass owl, which has 15 species (excluding subspecies), 11 species of the grass owl, and 4 species of the barn owl. In the Eeylops Owl Emporium, they are priced at 10 Galleons. The Longbottom's owl is a barn owl. "A barn owl brought Neville a small package from his grandmother."

4.Snowy Owls

Hedwig, Harry Potter's owl, is a Snowy Owl. The Snowy Owl is a large owl of the genus Owlidae, also known as the white owl, named for its almost snow-white body. Snowy owls are mostly diurnal birds and are very characteristic owls.

5.Eagle Owl

Malfoy's owl is an Eagle Owl, also known as the "big owl". It was always bringing him packages of sweets from home, which he opened gloatingly at the Slytherin table. The Eagle Owl is the largest owl in the world, reaching over 80 cm in length, making it suitable for transporting oversized packages.

6.Great Grey Owls

Errol, the frail, suffering, and overworked Weasley owl, is a Great Grey Owl according to Rowling. It is classified in zoology as the genus Owl family. Great Grey Owls are very large owls distributed in the northern hemisphere. Rowling said she had a hazy memory of what Errol looked like. When she went to the aviary at Leavesden Studios (where The Philosopher's Stone was being filmed), she saw a whole row of huge, grey, furry, seemingly dazed owls winking at her, and they were all exact replicas of the hazy memory picture in her head. They all played Errol.

With the popularity of Harry Potter, more and more people are keeping owls as pets. However, Rowling has emphasized that owls are not suitable for captivity. On her official website, she said, "If it is true that anybody has been influenced by this book to think that an owl is happiest shut in a small cage and kept
